
The only change for 2014 was the addition of the performance GTS trim level. When closed, it resembled the optional hardtop, which had an even more rounded contour. In model year 2003, the convertible top of the Boxster series was fundamentally revised. No changes were in store for 2012, but an all-new design was unveiled in 2013. The Boxster S was powered by a 3.2-liter engine, initially with an output of 252 horsepower but this was enhanced to 260 horsepower from model year 2003 onwards. Bluetooth and iPod integration were made standard in 2011. A new steering wheel was the only change for 2010. The base engine was enlarged to 2.9-liters, and the size of the touchscreen for the Porsche Control Management system was increased with hard drive based GPS offered. The first-generation Porsche Boxster (the 986) was introduced in late 1996 it was powered by a 2.5-litre flat six-cylinder engine. While 2008 saw no major updates, 2009 got a few. It complemented an updated auto-shifter and standard tire pressure monitoring system. The base engine received a five horsepower boost in 2007, able to make 245 hp.

Only a few trim levels were updated in 2004, but major changes were in store for 2005. The Boxster wouldnt see any changes in 2002, but would get new front and rear fascias and new turn signal lenses for 2003. Improved interior lighting, an updated dashboard and a new gauge cluster were the key changes for 2001. The performance Boxster S debuted in 2000, offering 250 horsepower. The following year, the gas tank was increased in size to house 14.1 gallons and some shuffling of trim levels took place. The non-S 987 came with 17-inch wheels, the S with 18s (19s were an option) and both cars were equipped with PSM (Porsche Stability Management). Side airbags were added as a standard feature to the Boxster in 1998.
